ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Jered Weaver wasnt sure what to say. These days with the Los Angeles Angels, nobody really is.Weaver had just been pounded, giving up a career-high four home runs to the New York Yankees in a 7-0 loss Friday night. Its something that is becoming all too familiar to the Angels and Weaver. It was his 315th career start for the Angels, second in franchise history to Chuck Finleys 379, but few have gone the way so many are now for the soft-tossing Weaver (8-11). He has failed to win in his last six starts and Friday made the struggle all the more apparent.I couldnt keep the ball in the yard, Weaver said softly. I didnt fool too many people tonight. The Angels fell 20 games under .500 (51-71) with the loss. They have lost 13 of their last 15 games, the season collapsing upon them.Nothing hurts worse than letting your teammates down and Ive been doing that on a pretty consistent basis, Weaver said. Its definitely a tough pill to swallow. The Angels offense offered no support against Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka, who is very much going in the opposite direction of Weaver.Tanaka (10-4) allowed only five hits in his 7 2/3 innings. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter. He hasnt walked a batter in his last four starts (123 hitters). We faced him before, but tonight he was a little crisper and had his pitches working, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. He pitched ahead in the count and threw a good game for them. The Yankees have won 10 of Tanakas last 12 starts, and his last three straight.New York gave him an immediate lead when Jacoby Ellsbury led off the game with a home run. It was the Yankees first leadoff home run this season. They added solo home runs by Ronald Torreyes, Didi Grregorius and Brian McCann in the fifth inning to chase Weaver.Torreyes, who batted ninth and entered the game hitting .218, had a career-high four hits, including his first career home run.Weaver has had particular trouble with the Yankees. He has a career 6.24 ERA against them -- his highest against any American League team. And little was working for him Friday. He allowed five runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. At times he made some really good pitches, but he was having some trouble getting pitches where he wanted to and those guys didnt miss them, Scioscia said. So well just turn the page on that.ESCOBAR LEAVES GAMEAngels 3B Yunel Escobar was attempting to bunt his way on in the fourth inning when the ball went directly off his bat and hit him in the face. He quickly left the game. Scioscia said Escobar, who is hitting .320, was hit in the nose and cheek. Were going to take it one step at a time, but (the DL) is a possibility, Scioscia said.TRAINERS ROOMYankees: 3B Chase Headley (sore Achilles) was held out, but is expected to return to the lineup Saturday. ... Durham 421 for 9 (Jennings 129) drew with Hampshire 472 for 9 dec (Ervine 93, Adams 86, Smith 67) and 174 for 4Scorecard The arrival of rain in mid-afternoon confirmed the inevitable draw in the Specsavers County Championship match between Durham and Hampshire at Chester-le-Street.After resuming 60 ahead on nine without loss, the visitors opted for safety as Jimmy Adams took 171 balls to score 49. They were 174 for four, leading by 225, when rain ended play, leaving Hampshire still at the foot of division one.Hampshire coach Dale Benkenstein said: All the batsmen are looking in good touch and from my time here at Durham I know that to score 472 is pretty rare.It was also probably the best we have been in the field this season, although Tino was not at his best and losing Ryan McLaren didnt help. If we had had a hundred lead we might have had a chance of winning. For the last few games we have been doing the basics right and giving 100 per cent, which hasnt always been the case.Staying in division one is a massive priority but we dont produce bowlers and its the best bowling sides who tend to finish at the toop.ddddddddddddhey were not so desperate for a win that they were prepared to take risks, scoring 85 in the morning session for the loss of two wickets.Graham Onions improved on his first innings efforts but had to be content with the wicket of Will Smith halfway through his one-hour testing spell. The acting captain fell for ten when he pushed forward and edged behind, but while Jimmy Adams contined to dig in Tom Alsop played fluently for 34.On 14 he edged Keaton Jennings fourth ball just wide of the slips, but it was a surprise that Jennings was on before Scott Borthwick. The leg-spinner had plenty of rough to bowl into outside the left-handers off stump and in his third over Alsop left one which turned sharply to bowl him.Hampshire were 200 ahead with seven wickets standing and 42 overs left when Adams edged a drive off Paul Coughlin for Ben Stokes to take the catch at slip.Michael Carberry made 55 before a shooter from Barry McCarthy bowled him shortly before the rain arrived.
